Proud to attend the Memorial Service for Gator  / Jim Foley (Marine)

I did not know Gator personally. I read the story about him in the Brockton Enterprise and decided as a former active duty Marine to pay my respects. I served on active duty in the Marines from 1982-1994. I was very impressed with Maureen O'Haire and all the active duty Marines that were in his unit. I was so glad that I attended the tribute in his honor. I will remember that special night for years to come.

Today my day started as it normally does.  As I was putting on my shoes I turned on our local morning news.  I was so blessed to see Gator's mother telling the story of her son and seeing the Marines of his platoon marching to his honor in the St. Patricks Day parade.  Walter is very proud of his family and friends for celebrating his life!

Mrs. O'Haire, may God Bless You and Your family.  I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps.  Today watching your story I was so proud to be part of that brotherhood.  Simper Fi!

We all went to NC for the memorial service. We met Wally's Platoon.  They were wonderful guys, who really loved him.  They all had so many stories to share of how stupid wally could get.  All I could keep saying was That's my Wally Balls.  I really loved the time I got to spend with all of them.  I know Wally was smiling down on all of us watching how both of his families were combining like we have known each other forever.  They made us feel so welcome and so relaxed and they made the process so much easier.  To you Wally I want to say that you have really made a mark on everyone that met you, baby.  I WILL MISS YOU ALWAYS.  I love you and think of you everyday.   I must tell you we plan on keeping in touch with all the guys.  They loved you very much.  Close

Candles / Gayle (Friend of family )
 Hi Moe, I know how difficult it is to lose a child. No one can imagine the pain and heartache a mother feels. Having someone light a candle in your child's memory really helps. It only takes a moment and it lets a mother know that her child has not been forgotten. If people are going to visit a memorial site they should at least let the family know by lighting a candle. It doesn't take much and it helps tremendously. 
 It gives me some comfort when candles are lit for my son,so I know more than others how you feel. People need to understand how little effort it takes to ease a mothers heartache. This is something you will deal with the rest of your life. Unlike others you can't walk away from it. I can tell you from experience that the pain never goes away, it gets better with time. But the heartache and loss will remain for a lifetime. I hope you find peace and comfort in the fact that Wally is with his Dad and they are both watching over you and the family. You and your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers. 
 As long as I am able I will continue to light candles for Wally and Tommy as well as other children who have passed. This helps to ease some of my pain. It makes me realize I am not alone.
